Please join us at the South Ferry Church in Narragansett for a series of community speaking programs. Pertinent to state, national and international issues and events, the speaking programs encompass a broad array of topics important in today’s ever-changing and challenging world.
Monday, August 14 – Captain John E. Jackson, USN (ret) – Professor in the U.S. Naval War College’s College of Distance Education. Capt. Jackson teaches a specialized course on “Unmanned Systems and Confilict in the 21st Century.” He is a specialist on the technical and policy implications of the use of unmanned military systems (“drones”) in the air, on the surface and undersea. He will provide an overview of the various military unmanned vehicle systems now in place and under development, as well as addressing some of the legal and ethical implications of using drones in warfare.
This presentation will begin in the Corless Auditorium on the Graduate School of Oceanography campus, across the street from the South Ferry Church, followed by a reception on the Knauss Terrace and small-group tours of the ISC in the lower level of the Ocean Science & Exploration Center Building.
